When Black Myth Wukong launched in 2024, few expected it to become one of the gaming industry’s biggest success stories so quickly. The game attracted millions of players worldwide and reached a record-breaking peak of approximately 2.5 million concurrent players at launch, making it the second most-played game in Steam history by peak concurrent users.

Now, less than two years after release, Black Myth Wukong sales have reached a remarkable milestone, surpassing 30 million copies sold worldwide, placing the title among the most successful action RPGs released in recent years.

Black Myth Wukong Sales Reach a Major Milestone

A recent report published by the Communist Youth League of China (CYL) revealed that the game has officially sold more than 30 million copies globally, an impressive achievement for a single-player title that does not rely on multiplayer features or live-service content.

What makes this figure even more noteworthy is that roughly half of the total sales came from the Chinese market alone, highlighting the game’s immense popularity in its home country thanks to its strong roots in Chinese mythology and folklore.

Reaching 30 million copies sold in less than two years is a rare accomplishment in the gaming industry, especially considering that Black Myth Wukong has not benefited from major discounts or large-scale sales campaigns since launch. The game also achieved this milestone faster than the acclaimed Elden Ring, which required a longer period to reach similar sales figures.

According to reports, GTA V remains the only title that managed to achieve faster sales growth than Black Myth Wukong, further emphasizing the extraordinary commercial success of Game Science’s action RPG.

At the same time, it appears that developer Game Science is already looking ahead to the future. After previous discussions about developing downloadable content for the game, reports now suggest that those plans have been abandoned in favor of a brand-new project titled Black Myth Zhong Kui.

The upcoming game is expected to be based on Zhong Kui, a legendary figure from Chinese folklore known for banishing evil spirits and delivering justice. The studio hopes to replicate the success of Black Myth Wukong sales by exploring additional Chinese myths and bringing them to life with the same high production values that helped make the original game a global phenomenon.
