The debate has resurfaced once again regarding a possible GTA 6 on Switch 2 release, after a new social media post claimed that Rockstar is actively developing a version for Nintendo’s next-generation console.
New Leak Reignites the GTA 6 on Switch 2 Discussion
The claim comes from well-known leaker Nash Weedle, who posted a direct statement saying that a dedicated GTA VI port for the Switch 2 is already in development.
He added that this version has not caused any delays to the main release schedule and clarified that the Switch 2 edition “will not be available at the console’s launch.” Nash noted that he previously avoided commenting on the topic due to caution, but now feels confident enough to confirm it, citing his strong track record with past Nintendo leaks.
The rumor gained additional weight after prominent insider NateTheHate was asked to comment. Nate stated that he had heard months ago that Rockstar conducted early testing to see whether the game could be brought to the Switch 2. However, he emphasized an important point: testing does not guarantee a final release.
Nate explained, “I said a while ago that R* was doing tests to bring it to Switch 2; but tests don’t always equal release. I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring it to the platform. I don’t know the current state of that effort..”
If GTA 6 does make it to the Switch 2, it would instantly become the biggest title to ever release on a Nintendo platform—joining major projects like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 (via cloud version).
Has GTA Ever Come to Nintendo Consoles?
Historically, the Grand Theft Auto series has appeared on Nintendo systems only through side entries or remastered bundles. GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition launched on the original Switch, but GTA 5 never made its way to any Nintendo console.
Early technical estimates suggest that GTA 6 could potentially run on the Switch 2 hardware, but with major compromises such as reduced frame rate, lower resolution, and scaled-down graphical effects compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.
The idea of GTA 6 launching on Nintendo Switch 2 is exciting and, based on multiple insider claims, increasingly plausible. Still, without official confirmation from Rockstar, the rumor remains speculation—one that will continue fueling discussions until the studio makes an official announcement.
