For years, Half-Life 3 has existed at the center of industry rumors, and new reports suggest that Valve originally planned the game as a launch title for the Steam Machine. According to these claims, the official reveal was scheduled to take place during The Game Awards 2025, but the company ultimately chose not to move forward due to market uncertainty and rising hardware memory costs.

A reliable source revealed that the game Highguard was not originally intended to appear in the closing slot of the event, as the studio behind it had not paid for that placement. However, after another title reportedly withdrew from the final slot — believed to be Half-Life 3 — Highguard was moved into that position, sparking widespread debate among fans.

Half-Life 3 Was Supposed to Be the Closing Reveal at TGA

Traditionally, the final reveal slot at The Game Awards is reserved for titles capable of generating massive hype, and under that logic, Half-Life 3 was expected to be the centerpiece of the event. However, due to uncertainty surrounding Steam Machine pricing and the sharp increase in memory costs, Valve reportedly decided to delay the official announcement.

Journalist Paul Tassi stated in a post on X that Highguard ended up in the closing slot despite the studio not paying for it. Another source, Alexxortv, further confirmed that the slot had originally been reserved for Half-Life 3.

As a result of this change, Highguard absorbed the full weight of media attention during the event. While the game received significant exposure, many players felt it was entering an already saturated market and did not view its presence as comparable to the impact a Half-Life 3 reveal would have delivered.

At this stage, all reported information remains unconfirmed and should be treated with caution. That said, the delay scenario appears plausible given the ongoing memory pricing crisis and the lack of clarity around Steam Machine hardware costs, factors that may have led Valve to take a more conservative approach before unveiling its most anticipated title.

Half-Life 3 remains one of the most controversial and eagerly awaited games in the industry, with players worldwide still waiting for the moment Valve finally breaks its silence after years of speculation and anticipation.
