A new Lord of the Rings game is reportedly in development — and it’s shaping up to be a massive project that aims to reimagine Middle-earth in a completely new way.
According to a recent report by Insider Gaming, the upcoming title is being partly funded by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), with an estimated investment that could reach $100 million USD.
Development Details of the New Lord of the Rings Game
The report, updated earlier today, confirms that an agreement between the developers and ADIO has already been officially signed, though it’s still unclear whether it will be publicly announced soon.
Sources close to the project revealed that negotiations over this deal have been ongoing since last year. While some key details are still being finalized, an official announcement could be made as early as next week.
Currently, the game’s development is being self-funded by the studio, with additional support from ADIO expected to be implemented once the financial partnership officially activates.
As for the content, insiders didn’t share much but confirmed that the project is an action-adventure game in third-person view, described as being designed to rival Hogwarts Legacy in scale and open-world immersion.
Who’s Behind the Project?
The report also notes that Embracer Group, which has owned the rights to The Lord of the Rings games since 2022 following a $400 million acquisition, is one of the key partners involved.
They are working alongside Revenge Studio and other unnamed collaborators on this ambitious project.
When Insider Gaming reached out for comment, Embracer responded:

Revenge Studio also declined to comment on reports regarding its participation.
This new Lord of the Rings title could mark the beginning of a new era for the franchise in gaming, especially as it involves direct financial backing from the United Arab Emirates — a first of its kind in the region.
