Egyptian authorities have officially banned Roblox in Egypt, following a decision by the relevant regulatory bodies due to concerns surrounding the platform’s content and its potential negative impact on children. According to local media reports, the move came after official assessments concluded that the game may promote harmful behaviors among minors.
Essam Al-Amir, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, confirmed that a formal decision had been issued to block the Roblox gaming platform, which is among the most popular games for children and teenagers. His remarks were made during a session of the Egyptian Senate that discussed the risks associated with children’s use of mobile phones and digital applications, as reported by local outlet Youm7.
Reasons Behind the Roblox Ban in Egypt and Coordination With Telecom Authorities
Al-Amir explained that the Supreme Council for Media Regulation had recommended taking firm action against websites and platforms that promote what it described as deviant behavior or facilitate its spread, as well as platforms that host electronic games encouraging violence or inappropriate conduct for children.
He added that the council is currently coordinating with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to implement the necessary technical measures to enforce the Roblox ban across Egypt, ensuring that internet service providers comply fully with the blocking decision at a technical level.
The Roblox ban in Egypt comes as part of a broader regional and international trend. Several countries in the Middle East had already imposed restrictions on the platform earlier. In August and September 2025, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman all took similar measures following warnings about potential risks to child safety.
On the international stage, Roblox has also come under increasing scrutiny. In August 2025, the U.S. state of Louisiana filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing it of facilitating child exploitation—claims the company strongly denied, according to a report by BBC.
Growing Global Concerns Around Roblox
Roblox is a free-to-play interactive gaming platform launched nearly 20 years ago. It allows users to create their own virtual worlds using simple development tools and interact with players from around the globe.
According to a report published by The Guardian in May 2025, the platform has around 85 million users worldwide, with children under the age of 13 accounting for roughly 40% of its user base.
In the United States alone, more than 13,000 cases of child exploitation linked to the platform were recorded in 2023, alongside reports of arrests related to crimes involving contact made through Roblox, based on American media coverage.
These figures have intensified calls from regulators and child protection advocates for stricter oversight of online gaming platforms—pressures that appear to have directly influenced Egypt’s decision to block Roblox nationwide.
