A new rumor has sparked discussion about the future of the Halo franchise, suggesting that Xbox may be considering transferring the series to Activision in an effort to restore it to its former glory after years of challenges under the studio formerly known as 343 Industries, now rebranded as Halo Studios.

The report comes as many fans believe the franchise has struggled to reach the heights of its classic era, with development issues and management changes impacting the series over the past several years.

Halo Could Move to Activision Under a New Xbox Strategy

According to gaming journalist and insider Jez Corden, Xbox is exploring new ways to restructure the Halo franchise so it can better realize its full potential. During the latest episode of the Xbox Two Podcast, Corden said he had heard a “crazy rumor” claiming that Microsoft could place the franchise under Activision’s oversight.

Corden explained that the idea is reportedly part of a broader initiative by Xbox’s new leadership to revive several of the company’s biggest franchises that have struggled in recent years, with Halo being one of the highest priorities.

He added that the goal would not simply be to assign Halo to a different development team, but to completely rethink how the franchise is managed. The objective would be to create a more consistent development pipeline capable of delivering the level of quality and long-term support that defined Halo during its golden years.

According to Corden, Xbox executives have been studying Activision’s development structure, which emphasizes clear project management and stable production workflows. That approach has helped the publisher maintain several successful franchises over the years.

The report also claims Microsoft believes Halo could benefit from a management model similar to the one used for Blizzard’s major franchises, potentially giving the series a chance to reclaim its position among the industry’s leading first-person shooters.

However, Corden noted that such a move would also carry risks. Some fans worry that shifting the franchise to Activision could fundamentally change the creative identity that Halo has built over many years under Halo Studios, while others believe Activision’s experience could finally unlock the franchise’s full potential.

Corden stressed that the information remains purely speculative and that he has not been able to independently verify the rumor. As a result, it should be treated with caution until Microsoft or Xbox makes an official announcement.
