Valve has officially lifted the curtain on a brand-new, fully integrated gaming ecosystem designed to deliver a seamless experience across devices. The new lineup includes three core products: Steam Frame, Steam Machine, and Steam Controller, all scheduled for release in 2026. The company emphasized in its announcement video that the goal was to unify the user experience across all devices, stating: “We made sure players feel complete consistency between the new hardware, from texture and button response to overall performance.”
Steam Frame: A Standalone VR Headset
Valve revealed Steam Frame as an all-new standalone VR headset that doesn’t require a PC to run, thanks to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and its own SteamOS operating system.
The headset can still connect to PCs through a 6 GHz wireless dongle, offering high-quality VR gameplay. It features a 2160 × 2160 resolution per eye and lightweight Pancake lenses, bringing the total weight down to just 435 grams — lighter than both the Valve Index and Quest 3.
Steam Frame uses full inside-out tracking through four external cameras and supports eye tracking for advanced features like foveated rendering and foveated streaming, which help reduce bandwidth usage. Its modular design allows players to detach the head strap, which holds the battery and speakers, from the main unit.
The headset also includes a front expansion port for future accessories, such as full-color passthrough cameras. It ships with new controllers equipped with finger-tracking sensors and powered by AA batteries.
Steam Machine: A Powerful Living-Room Console
The new Steam Machine acts as an enhanced and upgraded version of the Steam Deck, designed specifically for living-room play and big-screen gaming — making it one of the standout devices in Valve’s new hardware ecosystem.
It is powered by a six-core AMD Zen 4 CPU, a semi-custom RDNA 3 GPU, and 16 GB of RAM, with storage options ranging from 512 GB to 2 TB SSD. Valve claims the device delivers six times the performance of the Steam Deck, supported by an efficient cooling system that uses a single fan and a large heatsink.
Steam Machine includes several useful ports such as USB-C, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, and a microSD slot. It runs SteamOS, supports quick suspend/resume features, and allows up to four Steam Controllers to connect simultaneously through an integrated wireless antenna.
Steam Controller: A New-Generation Gamepad
Valve has redesigned the Steam Controller from the ground up to deliver a comfortable, modern control experience whether you’re playing on the TV or relaxing on the couch.
The new controller features drift-resistant TMR analog sticks, tilted touchpads for precision input, and gyro motion sensors for pointer control. It supports Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless connections, allowing up to four controllers to be paired simultaneously with low latency.
The device also functions as a charging unit and offers more than 35 hours of battery life.
Valve is expected to launch the controller alongside Steam Frame and Steam Machine in 2026, with pricing details to be announced at a later date.
