A new report suggests that the long-awaited Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake may finally be approaching release, with insiders pointing to an early 2026 launch window after years of delays and troubled development.
A Release Date for Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Remake Is Now Within Sight
According to a recent Insider Gaming report, the remake’s internal release target has become clearer than ever. The update surfaced during the latest episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, where Tom Henderson shared new details he received about the expected launch timing of the re-developed version of the iconic 2003 action-adventure game.
Over the past months, Henderson repeatedly stated that Ubisoft intends to release the Prince of Persia remake before the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, and it now appears that this plan is still in motion.
January 2026 Is the Current Target
Sources familiar with the project claim that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is currently planned for mid-January 2026.
Furthermore, new leaks suggest that the game may get a fresh showcase during The Game Awards on December 11, 2025—an event where Ubisoft could finally reveal the remake’s confirmed release date directly to fans worldwide.
A Troubled Development Timeline
The remake was first announced in 2020 but has faced a long string of delays. The game was initially meant to launch in January 2021, then pushed to March of the same year, before being delayed indefinitely without a new date. This was followed by an extended period of silence from Ubisoft.
In May 2022, Ubisoft revealed that development had officially moved to Ubisoft Montréal, effectively restarting the entire project from the ground up.
The new direction involves:
- A more grounded and realistic visual approach
- Fully redesigned graphics
- Newly captured animations
- Overhauled combat systems
- Rebuilt parkour mechanics
With such a broad scope, the remake evolved into a full reimagining rather than a simple visual upgrade.
Two years later, Ubisoft Toronto joined Montréal in co-developing the project, reaffirming that the team is committed to delivering a version worthy of the franchise’s legacy, with a targeted release sometime in 2026.
