Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has officially revealed Yakuza Kiwami 3 the remake of original Yakuza 3. As with the previous Kiwami titles, this project is a full reimagining of the original Yakuza 3 released on PS3 in 2009, now rebuilt with enhanced visuals, new cinematic sequences, and updated gameplay systems.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 Details
The new remake, titled Yakuza Kiwami 3, was unveiled during the latest RGG Summit developer presentation. It serves as a complete upgrade of the 2009 action-adventure game originally released on PS3.
The story once again follows Kazuma Kiryu in Kamurocho, the fictional Tokyo district modeled after Kabukicho. Yakuza 3 also introduces a secondary location, Ryukyu, set in Naha, Okinawa, giving the remake two distinct areas to explore.
The new version has been rebuilt entirely from scratch, featuring newly recorded voice lines, refined animations, fresh story cutscenes, and gameplay improvements. Like Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, which launched in 2016 and 2017, the remake will preserve the core narrative of the original while expanding on it with additional storylines, reworked cinematics, and updated outcomes.
Unlike a partial remaster, Yakuza Kiwami 3 has been fully developed from the ground up using the Dragon Engine first introduced in Yakuza 6. The game will also feature dual audio support, with both Japanese and English voice acting included.
Expanded Storytelling and Side Content
The remake introduces extended narrative sequences that provide deeper context for characters such as Kiryu, Rikiya, Mine, Kanda, and Hamazaki. This includes additional story scenes as well as a completely new side adventure titled Yakuza 3 Gaiden: Dark Ties, starring antagonist Yoshitaka Mine.
Players can also expect a mix of returning and brand-new mini-games, alongside expanded side activities. Karaoke returns with extra songs, and the game will feature even more unique substories that fans of the series have come to love.
Release Date and Editions
Yakuza Kiwami 3 will launch alongside the Dark Ties side story in a bundled release on February 12, 2026. The game will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
Pre-orders are now open, priced at $54.99 for the standard edition and $69.99 for the deluxe edition.
